Roberto Tagliazucchi
I was born in Carrara, shaped by its material culture, and matured artistically in France. My research moves between abstraction and figuration around a single question: the tension between body, matter and space.
My work does not arise from the desire to represent a form, but from the attempt to relate mass and space through their tension.
My idea of sculpture
For me, to sculpt is to place points in space, to trace lines in order to define, to bend light through the play of shadows, to use space within form rather than form within space.

Space is not the void that remains around matter. It is an active presence. Form measures it, passes through it, sets it into tension.
Space is not outside form. It is part of form.
When I open a void, I do not remove matter. I construct a space. When I carve, I do not destroy. I make a relation visible.
